What factors are important when selecting a weighing solution for production or logistics?

An incorrect price on the label usually arises because something goes wrong in the connection between your scale, the software, and the printer, or because data is entered manually. By setting up this process properly, you can largely prevent errors.

First, make sure there's a direct connection between the scale and the point-of-sale or ERP system, so the weight is automatically converted into the correct price and no manual input is needed. Manual input is, after all, one of the most common sources of errors.

Also use a calibrated scale when weight forms the basis for price calculation. A calibrated scale is certified and sealed, ensuring accuracy is guaranteed and cannot be accidentally or unauthorizedly adjusted.

Have price changes, such as promotional prices or new per-kilo prices, updated centrally in the system rather than on individual devices. This prevents some machines from still working with an outdated price.

Regularly check the settings and operation of your equipment, for example through an annual inspection of your scales. This way, you can be sure the weight is measured correctly and translates into the right price on the label.

Tegra Systems is happy to help think through the right connection between scale, software, and labeling system, so pricing errors are kept to a minimum.

Do you have a question? Please let us know!

  1. Is it possible to weigh fruit?
    "

Yes, that's certainly possible. Fruit such as apples and pears grows naturally, meaning each piece has a slightly different shape and size.

To still be able to weigh and label it accurately, we make sure the fruit is properly stabilized on the production line. With the right sensors, product detection remains reliable, even when the shape varies from piece to piece.

For fruit, we also often look at the right moment to apply the label. For apples, for example, we sometimes apply the label to the bag before it's even filled. This keeps the label nice and flat, rather than having to apply it over an uneven shape afterward.

This approach ensures that both label quality and line speed are maintained, even at higher volumes.

  2. Is it possible to weigh vegetables?
    "

Yes, that's certainly possible. The challenge with vegetables is that they are an organic, irregular product: a cabbage or celeriac grows the way it grows, and therefore always has a different shape and size.

This means we need to make sure the product can be properly stabilized on the production line, and that good sensors are used so that product detection remains reliable.

This also directly affects line speed: with a difficult, irregular product, the processing speed is often lower than with a uniform product.

We also look at the right moment to label per product. For certain peppers, for example, the label is applied to the film before the packaging is even formed, so that the label sits tight on the final packaging.

  3. What is a calibrated (certified) scale?
    "

A calibrated (certified) scale is a scale suitable for trade purposes - for example, when a price is calculated based on weight, such as a greengrocer charging a price per kilo.

A calibrated scale can be recognized by a metrological mark and seals, which ensure that the scale cannot simply be recalibrated or adjusted by the user.

A calibrated scale also always has a fixed division: for example, a 3 kg scale can be certified to an accuracy of 1 gram, but not half a gram - this is set by law.

A calibrated scale is not the same as a calibrated-for-accuracy (adjusted) scale: adjustment only involves resetting and checking the scale using reference weights, without the official certification and sealing that comes with legal calibration.

Tegra Systems is itself accredited by Agentschap Telecom (now the Rijksinspectie Digitale Infrastructuur, RDI) to break and reapply the seals of calibrated scales, and also provides a digital measurement report recording the findings and accuracy of the scale.

We also offer an annual inspection of calibrated and non-calibrated scales upon request, so you can be sure all your scales continue to weigh accurately.

  4. When does ATEX weighing apply?
    "

ATEX weighing applies when you work in a potentially explosive environment, for example in zones where flammable gases, vapors, or dust may be present. Think of working with solvents, powders, or other hazardous substances.

In such environments, reliable and certified equipment is essential. Tegra Systems therefore offers an extensive range of ATEX-certified weighing solutions, from robust stainless steel bench scales to industrial ATEX indicators, which meet the strictest European guidelines.

This equipment can withstand demanding conditions thanks to high protection ratings such as IP65 or IP68, making it resistant to moisture, dust, and intensive cleaning. Many of our ATEX products are also available in calibrated versions, so you meet all legal requirements for official weighing as well.

The ATEX indicators and scales can easily be connected to peripheral equipment such as printers and labeling systems, allowing safe weighing to be seamlessly integrated into your existing production or logistics process.

Our specialists are happy to help you select and integrate the right ATEX solution for your specific application, so that safety, legislation, and efficiency come together perfectly.
